God's Fridge

Do you have kids? If not, do you remember creating fantastic artwork your parents absolutely loved? For me it was a clay piece of junk my mother still has hanging in her kitchen above one of the cabinets. I wish she’d just toss it out. It’s embarrassing, but she’s proud of it. That’s kind of how I visualize God. The best we can do is junk compared to what He can do – “filthy rags” is what the Bible says. But when we do something for Him, He hangs it on His fridge. He’s proud of us, regardless of how much it falls short of “beautiful.” We did it for Him. If we do things for ourselves, it doesn’t matter how good it is. It’s on our fridge, so He doesn’t get to put it on His own. Our Seurat is junk in His eyes, and our crayon stick men – if done for Him – get the fridge. In fact, our whole life is a crayon drawing. When we live for Him, we get the fridge. Live for any other reason – you get the circular file.
