Make a Decision I used to be a lukewarm Christian. God is good, I believe in God, so I’m good. Right? WRONG! One day I made a decision about what god to follow. Looking into the evidence, I realized there’s really only one source that has any reliability to it. That’s the Bible. Incidentally, did you know the Bible has more evidence to back it up than there’s evidence of a real William Shakespeare? Just use that for comparison. Most people can quote Hamlet’s, “To be, or not to be.” Most schools have classes available (if not required). “A coward dies many times before his death.” How many have the option to learn what the Bible really says? Okay, back to my point. Where you spend eternity is in the balance. Despite what some denominations used to teach (maybe they still do), there are two destinations listed: Heaven or hell. One is where there are no more tears, the other is full of weeping and gnashing of teeth. What’s your pick? I picked Heaven. What does that mean? Do I have to follow a certain set of rules and regulations? Do I have to memorize the Ten Commandments and follow them all my days in hopes of earning a slot in paradise? In short, no. I’ll cover that in other posts. What the Bible teaches is that God wants our devotion. He should be the most important thing in our lives. We should love Him above all others, committing our lives to Him and His teaching. Jesus told us (it’s in the Bible) that we should love Him with everything we have. That’s what the Ten Commandments boils down to: Love God. If you love God, you’ll love others. If you love others, you won’t want to kill them, talk badly of them, or take their stuff. But there’s only one source with any reliability. Read it. Understand it. Live it. Then you’ll have no issue with the rest of the detritus of life. The problem comes in when, “I don’t agree with that part of the Bible.” That’s an issue. God doesn’t need your agreement. He made everything, including the rules. Period. You don’t like the rules, you rebel against the One who made those rules, and you’ve made a decision to not follow God. Remember, though – eternity is a long time. And if you don’t want God here, you won’t get Him for all eternity.
