Barns

There’s a Tim Keller sermon I was listening to about Jesus sending out the seventy-two disciples. In pairs they’d go through the countryside, spreading the good news of Christ. That’s when I had a bit of an epiphany (see the third definition).

Learning about God is like having a great harvest. You can keep it to yourself, or share it with others. And didn’t Jesus tell a parable about a dude who built new barns to hold things for retirement? “You fool!”

.

If God blesses you with a pile of money (or a lot of insight), the absolutely wrong thing to do is to keep it for yourself. All through the Bible that lesson has been taught.

.

The last thing I want to hear when I meet God is Him telling me, “You fool!” I’d much rather hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
