In the beginning God made everything, including the rules. One of the rules was cause and effect. Hold out a brick and let go, it will fall to the ground.
Last week I told about how every person has an intrinsic value to God. He loves you, regardless of what you or others have done to you. That doesn’t negate the cause and effect rules.
If you roll in the mud you get dirty. Cause and effect. God still loves you. If you take meth you get high. Cause and effect. God still loves you. Take meth long enough and it will ruin your health. Cause and effect. God still loves you.
I’m diabetic. Back in the 1980s the experts said the best way to lose weight was to eat simple carbohydrates like rice, potatoes, and bread. I needed to lose weight, so that’s what I ate. I picked up Type II diabetes. Cause and effect.
But God still loves me. He loves you, too. Not any more or less than He loves me, but that doesn’t negate the consequences of our actions. If you’ve purposely burned down a neighbor’s house, expect to go to jail.
There are times when God intervenes with the normal course of events. There are signs, wonders, and miracles, and they can happen to anybody. They’re for God’s glory, however, not for our purposes. Don’t go doing something stupid and expect a miracle to pull you out of the fire of consequences.
The point: God loves you enough to honor your choices. If you chose to eat rice and bread, He’ll let the consequences happen. I didn’t do enough looking into the subject, just saw what I liked and followed the wrong advice.
If someone is advising you take a drug to get high, or follow some other “god” because it makes sense, look into the subject. Just because it looks good doesn’t mean it’s right.
Cause and effect is one of the rules God created. If you choose to reject Christ and worship other “gods”, He loves you enough let you do that.
Beware the consequences, though.
Don’t let that brick fall on your foot.
