A while back my parents gave me some money. No strings attached.
My first reaction was, “What’s that for?” But upon thought I realized it’s not “for” anything. Kind of like God’s giving.
He loves to give good things to His people. Sometimes we see it as hurtful, but in the long run everything God does is for our benefit. Even having my septic system cave in is for my benefit. Hard to take, expensive to fix, but I know it’s for the betterment of me.
There’s a controversy in America about vaccinations. Leaving aside the contention, any parent who takes their child in to be vaccinated is doing it out of love. The parent wants what’s best for the child. (Those who don’t vaccinate do THAT for the same reason, BTW.)
But those kids only see that getting the shot HURTS! “Why did you do that, Mommy?”
“Because I love you, honey.”
When we see God do something “good” it’s the same thing. He loves us. We didn’t do anything to deserve it, we CAN’T do anything to deserve it. There’s not enough we COULD do to deserve the smallest beneficial thing from God.
But He does them anyway.
He loves us enough to cave in a septic system or give us a wad of cash.
