There’s a baseball card called the Holy Grail of cards. There’s one website listing the price at more than three million dollars. Think of it - a piece of thin cardboard costing that much money. There are people who’d sell everything they have just to own that card.
Similarly, there’s a small parable told by Jesus about the Pearl of Great Price. A man sees that pearl, and sells everything he has to get it, simply because it’s so beautiful. The shape and color is such a wonder he has to have it regardless of the cost. It’s a parallel to the Kingdom of Heaven being so impressive that everyone should sacrifice anything and everything to be part of this kingdom headed by Christ Jesus.
But it struck me one day that Jesus looked at me (and you, and the rest of humanity) and thought, “I gotta have that.” Then He gave everything to buy us.
Face it: Jesus, part of the Godhead, came down from the ultimate penthouse suite. He went to skid row, knowing the addled, drug-crazed meth-heads would murder Him simply because He wouldn’t join them in their addictions. He gave up everything to buy us back.
Jesus is worth everything we have to be with Him. He thought we were worth everything so He could have us, too.
