One of the verses most-often quoted is John 3:16. IMHO, it's criminal to separate that from John 3:17. In my reading this morning from Warren Wiersbe's exposition on Isaiah, he explains.
God loves both Christians and non-Christians. He loves Jews and Gentiles. Yes, so loved the world that he sent His Son to die, but not to condemn. "God is angry at sin because it offends His holiness and violates His holy Law."
So, "The judge took the place of the criminals and met the just demands of His own holy Law."
THIS is the Good News (Gospel) of Jesus, the Christ. The price has already been paid. All sinners (everyone is a sinner, BTW) need to do is put faith and trust in Jesus. That's it.
Do you want eternal reward in Heaven? There's your answer.
Don't want God? Then you'll get what you want: not-God. Eternal separation from the source of all that's good.
You get to decide. God doesn't impose Himself on those who don't want Him.
